EIF to back SevenGen Growth Fund with €40 million for sustainability investments

  •
    Date: 06 February 2025

EIF and SevenGen

  • The European Investment Fund will commit €40 million to SevenGen Growth Fund Coöperatief U.A., which will focus on investments in companies contributing to sustainability.
  • The fund will target EBITDA-positive companies within the energy, mobility, built environment, and industrial decarbonisation sectors across the Benelux, Germany, and the Nordics.

Luxembourg/Amsterdam, 6 February 2025: The European Investment Fund is set to join Dutch based SevenGen Investment Partners B.V. new Growth Fund as a cornerstone investor with a €40 million commitment. SevenGen’s fund targets businesses that are already profitable but need growth capital to scale rapidly, drive innovation, and expand their impact. With the backing of the EIF, the fund aims to accelerate its investment strategy, drive sustainable growth across key sectors and make impact for future generations. The EIF’s commitment remains subject to fulfilment of several conditions precedent.

“This agreement aligns with our mission to enhance sustainable economic development in Europe.” says Marjut Falkstedt, Chief Executive of the EIF. “By strengthening ecosystems in key sectors, our objective is to play an enabling role for innovation and growth. This partnership with SevenGen underscores our shared vision of driving sustainability and promoting the adoption of transformative technologies.”

Frederik Deutman, Managing Partner at SevenGen, commented: "We are proud to welcome the EIF as an anchor investor. Their confidence in our approach underscores the strength of our focus on supporting profitable companies positioned for growth. This partnership enables us to accelerate innovation and scale these businesses, addressing a gap often overlooked by traditional buyout models. Our aim is to deliver strong financial returns, measurable impact, and meaningful additionality. We are currently in advanced discussions with several companies that align perfectly with this mission."."

By investing in innovative enterprises that drive substantial price reductions in their value chains, SevenGen wants to make impactful products and services accessible to a broader audience. This accelerates their growth and significantly boosts financial returns and impact.

Background information:

The European Investment Fund is part of the European Investment Bank Group. Its central mission is to support Europe's micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by helping them to access finance. The EIF designs and develops venture and growth capital, guarantees and microfinance instruments which specifically target this market segment. In this role, the EIF fosters EU objectives in support of innovation, research and development, entrepreneurship, growth, and employment.

SevenGen is an independent investment firm based in Amsterdam. The firm focuses on high-impact investments in profitable companies within the energy, mobility, built environment, and industrial decarbonisation sectors across the Benelux, Germany, and the Nordics. SevenGen distinguishes itself by targeting businesses that are profitable and have outgrown the venture capital phase, and by delivering growth capital to accelerate impact and scalability.
