In today’s ever-more-connected world of instantaneous communication, vast amounts of data are exchanged every day. Do you know what happens to your e-mail once it leaves your mailbox or where information may be stored after you have sent it? The free movement of data comes with certain security risks and privacy concerns. From information leaks to identity theft, the risks are numerous and often unknown to users.
SecureMailbox, founded in Stockholm in 2011, quickly recognised the stakes of data protection. “At the time, the EU was reviewing its data protection regulations and so the timing was right to offer a European solution to a European regulation”, says Anders Jonson, CEO and founder of SecureMailbox.
All you need is an e-mail address and a mobile phone to protect your messages with highly secure encryption technology. SecureMailbox is a transmission platform, which sends messages in a protected and verifiable manner. This top notch tech firm is helping doctors, laboratories, banks, governments, people and organisations around the world to exchange sensitive information over the internet. It is also the first cloud service company to be awarded a ‘Privasee SEAL’ for complying with the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Almi Företagspartner, an EIF financial intermediary, provided SecureMailbox with an EU-guaranteed loan backed by the Investment Plan for Europe, the EU initiative aiming at generating new investments in Europe through the support of small and medium-sized enterprises. This loan enabled SecureMailbox to hire more staff and support the company’s international development.
Beyond SecureMailbox, the company has launched another product in 2015, the SecureAppbox, which enables government and e-health applications to be created compliant with EU’s new data privacy regulations and integrated with SecureMailbox. As of December 2016, the company is also opening new offices in the Nordic region.
Anders, who also launched Netscape in 1995 in Europe, is delighted that he was able to take his company to the next level thanks to EU support through Almi Företagspartner, adding that “as a long-term partner, we trusted we were in good hands, and the conditions for the loan were very attractive.”
