EIF has committed GBP 8.2m in Rock Spring Ventures to support life science in the UK

EIF has committed to invest GBP 8.2m in the first closing of Rock Spring Ventures, a Scottish Technology Transfer fund targeting opportunities primarily from the Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and Strathclyde.  Also participating in the fund which closed at GBP 26.3m, are Scottish Enterprise, the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, the Strathclyde Pension fund and a group of corporates.

Many regions in Europe suffer from a funding gap, particularly at the earliest stages of company creation. Scotland specifically suffers from a lack of resources to promote the commercialisation of research results and to allow high growth Life Science SMEs to reach their full potential. This fund, in close partnership with the Universities, will contribute towards bridging this funding gap and will also capture to a more limited extent opportunities more widely from the EU.
