Wouldn’t it be nice to be fit and active for the whole season instead of having to hobble around with joint supports or on crutches because your weak knee has just given way again? In 2010, Demetres Stordopoulos, the founder of Tribe, suffered a meniscus tear in his knee and after numerous visits to various doctors, got so frustrated with the absence of real information explaining his injury, he seized the opportunity to start to develop wearable devices capable of monitoring users' vital statistics via electrical impulses on the surface of the skin and able to predict future injuries. These signals are collected by sensors that are attached to athletic gear or in some cases embedded in the fabric itself. Through these, previously inaccessible metrics such as fatigue, intensity and even coordination of muscle groups can be recorded in detail greater than athletes themselves could possibly report. Through the analysis of this data, Tribe aims to be able to predict injuries, allowing athletes to eventually prevent them from recurring.
